Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the ServSafe Manager exam? 90 scored questions, 2 hours. A 10-question version is used for exam retakes in some settings.

Can I take it online? Yes — online proctored exams exist, in addition to in-person paper and computer exams.

What score do I need? 75 on the 75-100 scaled score. See the passing score page.

How many questions can I miss? It depends on which domains you miss them in. The exam is blueprint-weighted, so misses are not equally costly.

Do I need the book? The book is not the bottleneck for most retakes. Domain-level drilling is.

How do I know which domain I am failing? Your score report lists per-domain performance. If you never got one, a diagnostic practice bank with a per-domain weakness map does the same job in about 40 minutes.
