Integrated Pest Management

Pest control shows up as an exam scenario: the manager finds evidence of pests and must choose what to do, in order.

The order is always:

  1. Deny entry — seal cracks, keep doors closed, screen windows and vents.

  2. Deny food and water — store food in sealed, food-grade containers, off the floor, clean up spills immediately, fix leaks.

  3. Deny shelter — remove clutter, keep storage areas clean, keep dumpsters away from the door and covered.

  4. Eliminate — only then, work with a licensed pest control operator (PCO). You do not set traps over food-contact surfaces.

Exam traps: spraying pesticide yourself around food storage is always wrong; so is storing pest-control chemicals next to food.
